Pravin Dugel, MD
Retinal Consultants of Arizona; Phoenix, AZ

Title: "The Current AMD Healthcare Crisis:  Physiologic and Economic Considerations"

Dr. Dugel earned his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine, Los Angeles, California, in 1988. After an internship at LA County/USC Medical Center, he completed his residency at the Doheny Eye Institute, USC School of Medicine, Los Angeles, California, in 1992. Dr. Dugel completed Fellowships in Vitreo-retinal Surgery at the Doheny Eye Institute and in Vitreo-retinal Diseases at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami, Florida, in 1993. He was the Chief Resident Supervisor at the Doheny Eye Institute until he joined Retinal Consultants of Arizona in 1994. He has been co-investigator in National Eye Institute research studies and in several Multicenter Studies. Dr. Dugel has authored more than thirty papers and book chapters and is the first person to receive both the Heed Foundation Fellowship Award and the Ronald G. Michels Vitreo-Retinal Surgery Fellowship Award.

Registration

Advance registration is required. Please register no later than December 1st. Members in good standing can register using the on-line form. If you are registering a guest or if you otherwise owe a fee, use the paper form which can be downloaded in PDF format.

Annual COS dues includes attendance at the monthly dinners. Therefore, there is no charge for members in good standing.*

For non-members, guests and members in arrears, the registration fee is $75. Residents & fellows in training are not charged, but advance registration is still required.

If you do not owe any registration fees, you may fax your form to: 847/680-1682.

* Members are considered "in good standing" if their dues are paid by the time of registration for the monthly meeting.


 

Educational Items

Course Director: Sanjay Rao, MD

Target Audience: Practicing ophthalmologists, ophthalmology residents and fellows

Objectives:
At the conclusion of this learning activity, the participant should be able to:

1. Discuss the impact age-related macular degeneration (AMD) has on a patient's dailiy living.
2. Describe the physiological changes to the retina as a result of AMD and how the disease progresses in the typical patient.
3. Discuss how traditional and emerging therapeutic options affect the treatment decisions for an AMD patient and potential outcomes for those patients.

CME Credit

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through joint sponsorship of the Colorado Foundation for Medical Care, Office of Continuing Education (CFMC OCE) and Chicago Ophthalmological Society. CFMC is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Colorado Foundation for Medical Care designates this Live Activity for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
