This Month's Guest Speaker

Evan Black, MD

Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, Wayne State University School of Medicine; Director, Ophthalmic Plastic and Orbital Surgery Service, Kresge Eye Institute. Detroit, MI

Title: "Update in the Diagnosis and Management of Tearing"

Dr. Black earned his medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine (1994). He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals (1998) and then completed a fellowship in Ophthalmic and Facial Plastic Surgery, William Beaumont Hospital and Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit, MI. He earned his ABO certification in May 2000. Dr. Black's clinical interests include ptosis, cosmetic eyelid surgery, tearing problems, eyelid tumors and reconstruction. His research interests include Botox and eyelid malpositions. He is Chief of Ophthalmology at Harper Hospital in Detroit, and he serves on the board of the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.

Registration

Advance registration is required. Please register no later than March 12th.  Members in good standing can register using the on-line form.  If you are registering a guest or if you otherwise owe a fee, use the paper form which can be downloaded in PDF format.

Annual COS dues includes attendance at the monthly dinners. Therefore, there is no charge for members in good standing.*

For non-members, guests and members in arrears, the registration fee is $70. Residents & fellows in training are not charged, but advance registration is still required.

If you do not owe any registration fees, you may fax your form to: 847/680-1682.

* Members are considered "in good standing" if their dues are paid by the time of registration for the monthly meeting.


 

Educational Items

Course Director: Thomas Patrianakos, DO

Target Audience: Practicing ophthalmologists, ophthalmology residents and fellows

Objectives: At the conclusion of this learning activity, the participant should be able to:
1. Discuss the factors involved in diagnosing tearing abnormalities, including structural anomalies which contribute to the problem.
2. Describe procedural and pharmaceutical treatments for dry eye and other conditions relating to abnormal tearing.
3. List new options the clinician may consider in managing patients with tearing abnormalities.

CME Credit

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through joint sponsorship of the Colorado Foundation for Medical Care, Office of Continuing Education (CFMC OCE) and Chicago Ophthalmological Society. CFMC is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Colorado Foundation for Medical Care designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
