Paul Sternberg, MD
G.W. Hale Professor and Chairman,
Vanderbilt Eye Institute; Nashville, TN

Title: "Our New Challenge:  Treatments for Dry AMD"

Dr. Sternberg is a renowned retina specialist, being named one of the Best Doctors in America for both medical and surgical retinal conditions every year since 1994. He performs both laser and surgical treatment for the entire spectrum of retinal and macular conditions, including retinal detachment, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Sternberg has maintained an active academic and research program. He has authored over 200 scientific articles and 30 book chapters. He is a member of the Board of Scientific Counselors to the National Eye Institute, the Board of Trustees of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Board of Trustees for the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Sternberg earned his medical degree at the University of Chicago. He completed his residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore and a vitreoretinal fellowship at Duke University in Durham, NC.

Registration

Advance registration is required. Please register no later than November 12th.  Members in good standing can register using the on-line form.  If you are registering a guest or if you otherwise owe a fee, use the paper form which can be downloaded in PDF format.

Annual COS dues includes attendance at the monthly dinners. Therefore, there is no charge for members in good standing.*

For non-members, guests and members in arrears, the registration fee is $70. Residents & fellows in training are not charged, but advance registration is still required.

If you do not owe any registration fees, you may fax your form to: 847/680-1682.

* Members are considered "in good standing" if their dues are paid by the time of registration for the monthly meeting.


 

Educational Items

Course Director: Thomas Patrianakos, DO

Target Audience: Practicing ophthalmologists, ophthalmology residents and fellows

Objectives: At the conclusion of this learning activity, the participant should be able to:

1. Describe the disease process for dry age-related macular degeneration.

2. Discuss the current treatment options for dry AMD and the predicted results for each.

3. List new treatments for dry AMD and explain the relative benefits and possible complications for each.
