Title: "Successful Surgery for Your Patients with Inflammation: Advances in Biotechnology and Drug Delivery"
Dr. Sheppard is a specialist in corneal transplantation, dry eye syndrome, uveitis, cataract surgery, glaucoma, and premium lens implants. A native of Pittsburgh, he received his bachelors, masters and medical degrees from Brown University on a full Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship. He served four years with the U.S. Navy as the 6th Fleet Medical Officer and Chief of Family Practice. After military service, Dr. Sheppard pursued a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh Eye and Ear Institute and then a fellowship at the University of California-San Francisco. In 1989, Dr. Sheppard was named to the faculty at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He serves as the school's ophthalmology program director and clinical director of the Thomas R. Lee Center of Ocular Pharmacology. He serves on the editorial board for EyeNet Magazine and as an editor for eMedicine online. In addition, he is the medical examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and the co-founder of EyeRx Research and ProVision Network.

Registration
Advance registration is required. Please register no later than November 11th. Members in good standing can register using the on-line form. If you are registering a guest or if you otherwise owe a fee, use the paper form which can be downloaded in PDF format.
Annual COS dues includes attendance at the monthly dinners. Therefore, there is no charge for members in good standing.*
For non-members, guests and members in arrears, the registration fee is $75. Residents & fellows in training are not charged, but advance registration is still required.

* Members are considered "in good standing" if their dues are paid by the time of registration for the monthly meeting.

Target Audience: Practicing ophthalmologists, ophthalmology residents and fellows Objectives: At the conclusion of this learning activity, the participant should be able to:
1. Describe enhancement to topical vehicles for improved penetration. 2. Discuss appropriate selection of patients for sustained release steroid delivery platforms. 3. Explain potential side-effects for advanced delivery systems.
