Roberto Pineda II, MD
Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology,
Harvard Medical School

Title: "Corneal Topography and Cataract Surgery"


Dr. Pineda practices at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary in Boston. He earned his medical degree at the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed his ophthalmology residency at Mass Eye & Ear where he also was Chief Resident and a Cornea Fellow. He joined the Infirmary staff in 1998, served as Chief of Ophthalmology at Brigham & Women's Hospital, and is currently the Director of the Refractive Surgery Service and a member of the Cornea Service at ME&E. His primary interests are in refractive surgery and in complex corneal and anterior segment reconstruction. Dr. Pineda has regularly performed refractive surgery since 1995 and has been co-investigator in excimer laser FDA clinical trials while also developing tools used in managing LASIK complications. He has co-authored 4 textbooks, published numerous papers, and been an invited speaker at national and international ophthalmic conferences.

Registration

Advance registration is required. Please register no later than October 9th.  Members in good standing can register using the on-line form.  If you are registering a guest or if you otherwise owe a fee, use the paper form which can be downloaded in PDF format.

Annual COS dues includes attendance at the monthly dinners. Therefore, there is no charge for members in good standing.*

For non-members, guests and members in arrears, the registration fee is $70. Residents & fellows in training are not charged, but advance registration is still required.

If you do not owe any registration fees, you may fax your form to: 847/680-1682.

* Members are considered "in good standing" if their dues are paid by the time of registration for the monthly meeting.


 

Educational Items

Course Director: Thomas Patrianakos, DO

Target Audience: Practicing ophthalmologists, ophthalmology residents and fellows

Objectives: At the conclusion of this learning activity, the participant should be able to:

1. Describe the functions of corneal topography.

2. Explain how the information obtained from corneal topography can be utilized in cataract surgery cases.

3. Discuss the potential benefits from using corneal topography in cataract surgery and when it should be employed.


This activity is jointly sponsored by the Chicago Medical Society.
