About this Month's Guest Lecturer

Erin Shriver, MD, FACS graduated from Pomona College and Stanford University School of Medicine. She completed her residency at the University of Iowa (2006) and spent the two years following residency completing an American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) fellowship at the University of Miami Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. After fellowship, she joined the University of Miami faculty and established a full-time Oculoplastic service at Bascom Palmer’s Palm Beach office. Dr. Shriver practiced in Palm Beach for four years before returning to the University of Iowa in 2012.

Dr. Shriver is active in education and advocacy at the state, national, and international levels. She has received the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement and Secretariat Awards and was in their Leadership Development Program Class of 2017. Dr. Shriver is the ASOPRS Foundation Secretary, is the ASOPRS Alternate Delegate to the American Medical Association, and serves on the ASOPRS Education Committee. She currently is involved in advocacy at the state level through her role as President of the Iowa Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Shriver also has been involved in Women in Ophthalmology (WIO) since fellowship, chaired the WIO Summer Symposium in 2013, received the WIO Emerging Leader Award in 2015, and has served on the Board since 2014.

She enjoys sharing her passion for oculoplastics with colleagues and trainees and has received numerous teaching awards including the Department of Ophthalmology Medical Student Teaching Award in 2015 and 2017 and the Resident Teaching Award 2018. Her research interests are varied including: advances in oculoplastic techniques, critical analysis of current oculoplastic practices, establishing novel metrics for eyelid position and periocular aesthetics, surgical simulation training, the physics of eyelid malposition, and intimate partner violence in the ophthalmic patient population.
