Information for Residents in Training

The Chicago Ophthalmological Society always has placed a high priority on participation by residents from the Chicago area training programs.  Toward that end, residents are invited to attend all of the COS monthly conferences as guests of the membership without charge.

Case presentations at the monthly conference

In addition, residents from each of the training programs are invited to participate in the monthly conferences by presenting interesting cases, which will then be discussed by faculty and the guest lecturer.  Please refer to the presentation criteria for details.  A schedule of monthly case presentations for the current year can be found here

Beem-Fisher Award & Lecture

Each year, Chicago-area ophthalmology residents are invited to compete for the Beem-Fisher Award.  Research papers submitted are judged by a committee of prominent COS leaders who designate first place, second place, and third place recipients.  Cash prizes are associated with these awards, and the first place winner is invited to present a summary of his/her paper at the last monthly conference of the year.
Beginning in 2020, COS expanded this program to include a category for Fellows in all subspecialties.

Young Ophthalmologist Committee

In 2020, the COS established a Young Ophthalmologist Committee with the goal of establishing programs that would be of interest to ophthalmologists in their first five years of practice, as well as those continuing in their training.  Check back here for additional information as the committee begins its work.
