"Refractive Surgery Today - Expanding The Options"

About this Month's Guest Lecturer
Dr. Nandini Venkateswaran, a member of the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Service at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, is a fellowship-trained cataract, cornea, and refractive surgeon. A New York native, Dr. Venkateswaran earned her medical degree with a distinction in community health from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. She completed her Ophthalmology residency at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute/University of Miami, after which she completed a prestigious fellowship in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at Duke University. She specializes in:
- Complex cataract surgery, femtosecond laser-assisted refractive cataract surgery with use of intra-operative aberrometry and premium lens technologies
- Most advanced techniques in corneal transplantation, including DMEK (Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty), DSAEK (Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty), and PK (Penetrating keratoplasty)
- Laser refractive surgery (LASIK, PRK, and SMILE) as well as intraocular refractive surgery (Implantable collamer lens (ICL) and clear lens exchange)
- Corneal cross-linking for keratoconus and post-refractive ectasia
- Anterior segment reconstruction (intraocular lens exchange, secondary intraocular lens implantation, iris repair)
- Dry eye disease and use of cutting-edge therapies such as Lipiflow and Tear Care for the treatment of meibomian gland dysfunction
- Diagnosis and treatment of corneal dystrophies, pterygia and ocular surface tumors
Dr. Venkateswaran is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and Cornea Society and currently serves on several committees in these organizations. She has co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and several book chapters early in her career. She has received several awards for her excellence in research and clinical care and has presented her scientific work at numerous national and international meetings.
